LKSD students are participating in cutting edge programs to harness technology for problem solving in our community, our nation, and our world. A new video highlights our students’ involvement.

Alaska airspace is central to homeland defense. Unmanned platforms such as drones are playing a crucial role in this defense.  The Department of Defense (DOD), in an effort to build an effective tech-trained, STEM-educated workforce in Alaska has partnered with a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. UAF programs such as Upward Bound and the T3 Alliance are an important way the DOD is working to meet its high demand for Alaskan-based STEM personnel. Working with an Alaskan-grown workforce has many advantages in local expertise and sustainability.

Our BRHS Upward Bound/T3 students are leading the way with their training and work “on the ground” here in the YK Delta.  A recently completed mission with YKHC underscores the importance of local contributions not only to national defense but also to health care in a region with unique challenges.

There are many other projects in the pipeline for our Upward Bound students and we are so proud of our students for leading the way! If you would like to be involved in this program, please email James Reames.
